I recently made two such Malabon food discoveries that I've come to regard as "comfort food." Eager to savor these and other long-time favorites, I joined the MALABON FOOD TOUR led by Richard Bautista last Saturday for the Pinoy Frugal Chowhounds.

Can anyone post a picture of the old restaurant named " Victoria" across the Cine Estrella? This used to be a very busy food joint during the 50's till I left Malabon in 1972.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, thanks for the visit. I do hope someone has a picture of it. In fact, I'd welcome any old pictures of Malabon landmarks and popular hang-outs. It's so nice to reminisce.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment!
ReplyDeleteI already missed my hometown! I was told that Tia Rosy passed away but her legacy lives on.. I have pancit malabon which I cooked for lunch and dinner.. Nakaka-miss ang lahat ng nai-post dito except Tessie's Turon.. bakit di ko sya natitikaman pa?! Salamat sa pag post nyo! :)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, Yes, Malabon can be truly proud of Aling Rosy and her pancit malabon legacy to our hometown.
ReplyDeleteAs to Tessie's turon, Aling Tessie said she was already selling the turon in the 1980s but stopped when she went to work in an office. She only revived it last year. I'm so glad she did because her turon has now become another comfort food of mine!
Thanks for dropping by.
Ang pinakamasarap magluto ng pansit malabon ay si Aling Felicing.
ReplyDeletewhen is the next malabon food tour? who's the contact person and how much is the tour...thanks...
ReplyDeleteThere are no fixed tour dates and no charges. Arch. Richard Bautista usually does these tours if there are interested groups. For contact info, please email me at mymalabon@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteYou missed Nanay's Pansit Malabon just along gov. pascual ave., and several restaurants like mary jay, and boy ching woo, balsa and now there's palmera's. :) hope you do visit them on your next visit.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - We didn't have time anymore to pass by all the food places - with all the walking, eating/chatting, and photo stops we had, including the boat ride in badeo tres. You really need more than one day to take it all in!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment.
Have you heard of Aling Mercy's Quekiam? I think it's more delicious.
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't heard of it. Could you tell me where it's available?
ReplyDeleteIt's along Bonifacio Street, in front of Red Crescent Diagnostic Center.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'll try it one of these days.
