According to Arnaldo Dumindin in his narrative on "The Philippine-American War, 1899-1902," the Americans advanced to Malolos along the Manila-Dagupan railway on March 24-31, 1899. Their prime objectives were Malolos, the Filipino capitol, and the capture of Aguinaldo. But first they had to overcome defenses put up by Filipinos along the way.
Among the battles fought during that advance to the north was the BATTLE OF MALABON in 1899.

ReplyDeleteYour blog reminds me of my roots, like you I am one of those who cherish the memories of our home town. It is very sad to see that the beauty of Malabon is slowly fading because of urbanity. I miss the old Malabon, masaya at masarap manirahan sa Malabon

ReplyDeletesobrang na mimiss ko ang Dating malabon kung saan matatagpuan ang mababait na mamamayan , mapayapang kapaligiran , saganang Bayan ... yamang tubig tulad ng tilapia bangus talangka martiniko tahong at talaba... yamang lupa gaya ng mga punongkahoy na namumunga ng... bayabas , balimbing , mansanitas , granada , siniguelas , atis , mangga , santol , duhat , kaimito , sampalok at kamias ... malawak na lupang napag tatamnan ng mga gulay at halamang namumulaklak masarap gunitain ang kalagayan ng Malabon noon subalit ang lahat ng iyan ay pawang kasaysayan na lamang sa ngayon... sana nga ms Cecile , mai 'save' pa natin kung no pa ang mabuting natitira ....

ReplyDeleteAng sarap pakinggan ang mga memories mo of the old Malabon. Kahit papano, inabot ko pa rin ang mga yon -- puro fishponds sa magkabila ng Letre, Governor Pascual at Dampalit road... mabait, masipag at mapag-alaga sa kapaligiran ang mga mamayan. I remember yung mga Lola ko tuwing umaga, nagwawalis yan sa looban nila at pati na sa kalye sa harap ng bahay. Walang basurang nagkalat, walang mga palaboy.
Ayokong mawalan ng loob, huwag tayong mawalan ng loob. Kung makikita ng liderato natin na interesado, aware at pursigido tayo, umaasa akong baka ma-enganya na rin silang pagbutihin ang gawa nila at baka finally maka-ahon na ang Malabon!
I never imagine Malabon is very can be interesting as this....
